More Michigan

In yet another example of the broken partnership, Michigan State Legislators draft a plan for a re-do on their primary without consulting with counties. Wayne County Clerk Cathy Garrett takes them to task saying:

It is disheartening that Municipal and County Clerks, who will be held responsible for conducting another primary election, have not been consulted for their input on the feasibility and timing of the proposed election and the impact on their respective offices.

The election process involves a series of very stringent deadlines that are statute driven and must be met to assure everything is prepared and working accurately. To sandwich a proposed "do over election" between a May and August election would seriously put both elections in harms way.

More proof counties matter?

From Stephen Colbert last night:

Between now and the convention, those two are going to duke it out primary by primary and horde every delegate they can find. Guam, prepare to be relevant. It will all come down to a brokered convention with the superdelegates, unable to decide between Clinton and Obama, will ultimately pick the darkhorse candidate, that CNN touch screen computer. Once it becomes self-aware, human candidates won't be able to able to compete with its encyclopedic knowledge of America's counties, especially once it picks a Diebold machine as its runningmate" ("Colbert Report," Comedy Central, 3/5).

Calling all Mathletes

It seems everyone is talking about delegates these days and how Clinton and Obama reach the magic number of 2025. Luckily, Forbes has put together a fun little fill-in the blank chart that will let you play out different primary scenarios. Enjoy!

On the Dem side

Clinton gets both Ohio and Texas. This thing is a long way from over folks. They're off to Wyoming on Saturday and Mississippi next week, but all eyes are on Pennsylvania and there's still seven weeks to go.

AP calls it for McCain

WASHINGTON (AP) — John McCain clinched the Republican presidential nomination Tuesday, an extraordinary comeback for a candidate whose White House hopes were dashed eight years ago and whose second bid was left for dead eight months ago.

More McCain

Texas is called for McCain, MSNBC says that it's likely Huckabee will concede tomorrow. And Talkingpointsmemo reports an endorsement from President Bush will cement McCain's standing as GOP nominee.

McCain takes Ohio

According to CNN. The Democratic race is still too close to call.

Vermont

MSNBC calls Vermont for McCain and Obama.
