People are listening

As readers of the blog know, NACo has been successful in getting our message out to the presidential campaigns and serving as a resource to their policy departments, but last week we hit a milestone in Congress too. From the NACo press release:

'The Restoring the Partnership for County Health Care Costs Act of 2008,' was introduced April 3 by Rep. Alcee L. Hastings (D-Fla.), Rep. Rush D. Holt (D-N.J.) and Rep. Michael C. Burgess (R-Texas). The bipartisan bill would prohibit the federal government from stripping individuals of their Medicare, Medicaid, and SSI benefits prior to actually being convicted.

This is a great first step in getting Congress to realize the important role that counties play and we look forward to seeing more efforts to support the partnership.
